Manifesto
Bring us the next generation of literati. This is a journal for the age, an open field for deciding afresh, as young writers, what it means to be literature. We are not limited to expression by select demographics of race, gender, or sexual orientation. Our giants in the making come from diverse backgrounds and represent our generation as a constellation. All who find themselves within it are welcome here.
Bring us the artist who crafts from today's passion and pain. We free ourselves of genre and the writerly conventions of the past, unless their foundations serve as a pedestal of new meaning and explanation in the world we cocreate. The universe is an unthinking yet intelligent place coming to life through us. Our writing will be like a burning sun that exposes the mystery of the surrounding darkness.
Bring us the wordsmith who defies the mindless machine of capital and shuns conformity to best-sellerism. Simplified by Cesar A. Cruz: "Art should comfort the disturbed and disturb the comfortable." We reject today's moneymaking writerly establishment to seek and create new meaning. We make art that nurtures vibrancy and shuns dullness the way a star would. We aim first for greatness, not the transient caprice of fame.
Great writing is like a lodestar, a light to learn the world by. And a great writer illuminates by exploring their own mind with wanderlust like an astronaut does the cosmos.
